WELCOME TO THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS

Whangamata and its district are an exciting and wonderful place to be all year round. Famous for its unique combination of beach and rainforest. Both worlds providing activity choices. A safe boating harbour for water skiing and kayaking, with a new marina that opened in November 2009. Family swimming and picnics on our spectacular beaches, harbours and estuaries. The Pacific Ocean for boating, fishing, snorkeling & diving. The bush clad hills offer visitors and locals the choice of many adventures, tramps, historical gold mine sites and mountain biking.

Whangamata has amazing ocean beach providing some of the best surfing breaks. Surfing is the unique point of difference from other Coromandel beaches and is a significant economic contributor. Surf board manufacturing and retail surf shops are well established in Whangamata.

When you have reached saturation point with the sea and the forest, come and enjoy golf, squash & tennis court hire, leisurely strolls around the town's reserves, 7 day shopping in one of the best shopping areas in the Coromandel, unique cafes and restaurants, pamper and indulge yourself at one of the beauty clinics or visit the rich variety of artists and crafts people in the District.

Whangamata is also home of the Beach Hop, a five day celebration of 50's & 60's culture and lifestyle with hot rod cars, clothing, music and events of that era. Beach Hop's humble beginnings has grown from 4000 people to 70,000 in five years and is now New Zealand's biggest 50's & 60's nostalgia festival.

Only an hour's drive to Cathedral Cove, Hot Water Beach, two hours to Coromandel Town and Auckland, New Zealand's biggest city, a short 35 minute drive to Waihi, Whangamata is an ideal destination to base your Coromandel experience from. A variety of accommodation awaits you and allows you to relax and escape the hustle.

Enjoy!

Brits At The Beach 2013 [2013-03-07]

This will be an awesome weekend of Brit filled fun.
With a Village Fete, Scruffs Dog Show, Food & Drink, Music, Cars, Fancy Dress, and of course, some Special Guests, Brits at the Beach has something for everyone to enjoy.

SEAGULL RACING - We can now confirm the BRITS 4 committee will be organizing a Seagull Race for Brits4. A big thanks to Whangamata Coastguard, Whangamata Harbourmaster and Andy Murray (Seagull Fan!) for their assistance in the planning of this event.

GURNYING COMPETITION - Especially for those that can pull a face, and in particular those with false teeth (or so I'm told) BRITS4 will be running a "Gurnying" Competition on the main stage at the Great British Village Fete around 1pm.

KNOTTED HANKY COMPETITION - This will happen at the Great British Village Fete around 1.30pm. You will be given a hanky and you will have to tie a knot in each corner and get it on your head - first to complete the task WINS - and we'll have some fab prizes for you too!
